Representatives of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region and the Belarusian State Academy of Cultural and Historical Information (BSACFI) participated in a meeting with students of the Vitebsk branch of the Belarusian State Academy of Communications

The event was held as part of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Zheleznodorozhny District of Vitebsk and was dedicated to meeting with the authors of the publication «Here the Past Doesn’t Disappear, but Becomes the Foundation».

The publication was initiated by the administration of the Zheleznodorozhny District of Vitebsk.

The purpose of the publication is to link the history of the district and its present into an indivisible whole.

The State Archives of the Vitebsk Region and the Belarusian State Academy of Cultural and Historical Information (BSACFI) participated in the preparation of the publication on behalf of the archival institutions. The book was compiled by Tatyana Buevich, Deputy Director of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, and Anzhelika Mikhailova, Deputy Head of the Zheleznodorozhny District Administration. The authors are Tatyana Buevich, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Sergei Nikolaenko, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Communications at P.M.Masherov Vitebsk State University, and Gleb Orlovsky, research fellow at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M.F.Shmyrev.

The Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents contributed priceless photographs for the publication, most of which are published for the first time.

The event elicited a lively response from the students. The authors were asked questions.

Andrei Nikolaevich Gonchar, Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, brought a surprise – newsreels dedicated to Vitebsk in 1918 and 1931. The students were able to experience the city’s history «in the flesh».
