Employees of the Gomel Region Public Associations Archives took part in commemorative events commemorating the 82nd anniversary of Gomel’s liberation from Nazi invaders

On Gomel Liberation Day, employees of the Gomel Region Public Associations Archives took part in commemorative events commemorating the 82nd anniversary of Gomel’s liberation from Nazi invaders.

A monument to twice Hero of the Soviet Union, outstanding military leader, and Marshal of the Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky was unveiled in a solemn ceremony in the park near Vosstaniya Square.

The monument, created by Russian sculptor Yulia Pashina, was erected near the 8 Marta factory. The bronze sculpture depicts a historical scene where Konstantin Konstantinovich rode horseback during the 1945 parade on Red Square.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by regional and city leaders, parliamentarians, representatives of the Russian Presidential Administration, official delegations from Russian regions, Gomel residents and guests, and the grandson of Marshal of the Soviet Union, Konstantin Vilyevich Rokossovsky.

Archive staff also attended the military equipment parade and the march of units that took a new route from Vosstaniya Square toward the train station, in a sense retracing the Red Army’s route to the West in 1943.
