A system of open access to the documents of the National Archival Fund has been put into permanent operation
Starting from September 1, 2025, the System of open access to documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus will be put into permanent operation. version 2 – SODD NAF 2.
The project was implemented as part of event 53 «Development of an open access system to documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus» of the Digital Development of Public Administration subprogram of the State Program Digital Development of Belarus for 2021-2025, approved by Resolution No. 66 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated February 2, 2021.
The system was developed on the basis of the previous version of the NAF SOD, to which functional modules were added that ensure the creation of orders for the provision of digital copies of archival documents for authorized users, the integrity of digital objects and archival descriptions, and the placement of digital copies of inventories of state archives. The portal’s interface has been radically redesigned.
As a result of the modernization in SODD NAF 2 database, the process of creating archival descriptions has been automated and now the system itself exports the necessary information from the databases of the «Automated Information System of the State Archive», filled in the state archives, to the SODD NAF 2 database via SIP packages. At the same time, the integrity and authenticity of SIP packets is guaranteed by signing with an electronic digital signature. Ensuring the integrity of archival descriptions and digital copies enhances the credibility of the NAF-2 Database as an electronic resource providing access to the content of original archival documents.
The new version of the SODD NAF 2 database allows remote access to the contents of documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus, helps meet the growing needs of society and citizens for archival information, create thematic projects and virtual exhibitions based on documentary primary sources, strengthen the importance of archival documentary information in the process of historical cognition, in understanding history lessons based on primary sources.
