Brief biographical information:
K.B.Gelman-Vinogradov was born in Gomel. From December 28, 1942, he participated in the Great Patriotic War, was awarded 12 combat medals, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree. He ended the war with the rank of senior lieutenant. In 1950, he entered the Moscow Historical and Archival Institute, after graduating (with honors) he continued to work as a teacher at the institute. K. B. Gelman-Vinogradov is well known in the circles of historians, archivists and document scientists as a scientist who devoted almost half a century of his life to research, and a remarkable teacher who taught more than one generation of students and postgraduates at MGIAI-RSUH.
His doctoral dissertation on machine-readable documents, defended in 1984, served as a kind of harbinger of the formation of a new scientific direction in document science – the study of electronic documents. In recent years, the scientist successfully worked at VNIIDAD as a leading researcher in the department of document science and a member of the dissertation council. Studying the documents in the information technology key, the scientist came up with an extraordinary idea about their content and purpose, which he outlined in the article «Special Mission of Documents» (2007), which gave the title to a collection of his scientific works, published on the eve of the scientist’s 85th anniversary.
