History of Medicine. Archivists of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno have prepared a virtual exhibition dedicated to the activities of the Vileika Central District Hospital
Employees of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno have prepared a virtual exhibition dedicated to the history of the formation and development of the medical network of the Vileika region.
Until the middle of the 19th century, there was no clear system of providing medical care to the population in the Vileika district. Most often, the desire to treat diseases independently, using traditional medicine and methods, prevailed. It was common in every family to prepare and use various medicinal plants to combat diseases; in difficult cases, they turned to healers and whispering grandmothers for help. At the beginning of the 20th century, in addition to the state medical network, 9 freelance doctors worked in the Vileika district, 4 pharmacies and 11 drugstores were registered. In 1921-1939. There were 7 doctors, 5 paramedics, and 7 midwives working in the entire district. In 1938, the construction of the first stage of the regional hospital began, which was put into operation in 1940. Until 1941, the medical network of the Vileika region included 38 hospitals, maternity hospitals, inpatient facilities with a bed capacity of 1,695 beds, 101 polyclinics, outpatient clinics, 54 rural medical stations, 69 feldsher stations, and 9 sanitary and epidemiological stations. The events of the Great Patriotic War were a huge blow, but already on July 10, 1944, by order of the Vileika city health department, the Vileika hospital was opened to the population, and the Kurenets and Ilyansky district health departments began to work. In a short time, the medical network was not only restored, but also further developed: work was carried out to strengthen medical and preventive institutions, develop and improve the district health service, and open new institutions of the medical network. Today, the material base of the Central District Hospital, the qualified training of doctors and mid-level medical personnel allows each patient to receive high-quality medical care.
