On April 30, 2025, the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region opened an exhibition «From a Red Bow to a Red Banner» dedicated to the Spring and Labor Day

On May 1, Belarus celebrates Labor Day, established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 26, 1998 No.157 «On state holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus».

The May Spring Festival, which has a thousand-year history and is associated with the holiday of offering gifts to the ancient Roman goddess of fertility Maya, acquired a different meaning at the end of the 19th century and was associated with the largest strike of Chicago workers in 1886 in defense of their social rights, which ended in tragic events. As a sign of solidarity and in memory of what happened in 1889, in Paris at the first Congress of the Second International, May 1 was established as World Workers’ Solidarity Day.

The exhibition displays the genesis of the holiday from the Day of Solidarity of Workers to the Labor Day in articles, poems, appeals and memoirs published on the pages of local periodicals from 1919 to the 1960s.
