On the event held by the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» within the framework of «Archives – to School»
April 24, 2025 The State Archives of the Gomel Region held the event «Youth – Time to Choose» within the framework of the project «Archives – to School» in the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.74 of Gomel».
The director of the archive, Yuri Shestopalov, told the students about the importance of national unity and the preservation of historical memory in the modern world, where there is an ideological struggle for the minds of the younger generation. On the eve of the celebration of the Great Victory, attempts are being made to reassess and rethink the results of the victory over fascism. It is possible to preserve the memory of the historical events of the Great Patriotic War only by knowing the history of your region, studying archival documents that cannot be rewritten. The Great Victory was won by the joint efforts of many peoples of the Soviet Union, and the Belarusian people, like no other, experienced all the horrors of war.
Senior researcher Maya Vaschenko told the students about the feat of front-line cameramen, thanks to whom future generations have the opportunity to see documentary footage of military operations in 1941-1945. The students were offered a documentary film by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, «The History of the Great Victory».
The event was attended by Deputy General Director of Comintern LLC, participant of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly Irina Abramchikova. She told the students about the need for high school students to self-identify in the professional field. Knowledge of the requirements that a particular profession places on the qualities of a specialist, knowledge of the needs of the labor market, and other information will help school graduates when choosing a profession.
