Virtual exhibition of BGAMLI «The beginnings: Yuri Viktorovich Tarich and V.V.Korsh-Sablin – the founders of Belarusian feature cinema»

January 24, 2025 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Viktorovich Tarich (1885-1967). March 29, 2025 marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Vladimirovich Korsh-Sablin (1900-1974). They are widely known as directors, the founders of Belarusian feature cinema.

In 1926, a creative team led by Yu. V. Tarich, which included V.V.Korsh-Sablin as an assistant director and actor, shot the first Belarusian national film, «The Forest Tale», based on the story «The Swineherd» by M. Charot. Later, both directors actively collaborated with the Soviet Belarus film factory in Leningrad and the Belarusfilm studio in Minsk. V.V.Korsh-Sablin was the artistic director of the studio and its most influential director in 1945-1960 and 1969-1974. Yu.V.Tarich became the creator of not only Belarusian, but also Tatar and Mongolian national cinema.

The creative path of the founding directors was not easy, but thanks to their efforts, Belarusian cinema found its voice and became an integral part of Belarusian and world culture.

For those who wish to get acquainted with the documents of Yu.V.Tarich and V.V.Korsh-Sablin in the funds of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, a virtual exhibition was prepared «The beginnings: Yu.V.Tarich and V.V.Korsh-Sablin – creators of Belarusian feature cinema», which can be viewed at the link.
