On the implementation of the republican campaign «Archives for School» in the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation

On January 20, 2025, as part of the campaign «Archives for School», an excursion was organized for students of grade 8 «B» of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.40 of Minsk» in the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

The excursion to the archive was conducted by the archivist of the 2nd category of the Department of Information and Use of Documents Nikita Andreevich Gornostaev. The schoolchildren got acquainted with the history of the archive, the building it occupies, as well as the structure and direction of the archive’s activities.

Particular attention was paid to familiarization with the work of archival storage facilities, where students were introduced to the creation of optimal conditions for storing valuable documents, the rules for their placement, the procedure for issuing and recording cases, and measures to ensure the safety of archival materials in emergency situations. In the archive reading room, students familiarized themselves with the design documentation of the National Library of Belarus, sketches of plans for pre-war development of the city of Minsk, an exhibition of archival documents «Religious Architecture of Belarus», as well as a banner exhibition dedicated to the history and modern development of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation and the restoration of Minsk after the Great Patriotic War.

Such events help to broaden students’ horizons, help them understand the importance and role of archives in the modern world, and may help some decide on their future profession.
