As part of the implementation of the industry virtual exhibition project «Cities of Belarus», the Zonal State Archives in Orsha presents a virtual exhibition of archival documents «History of the City of Baran, Orsha District».

Baran is a small town in the Vitebsk region, which is located just nine kilometers from the district center Orsha. The city is located on the Adrov River, on the right tributary of the Dnieper. Today, more than 11 thousand people live here.

Baran was first mentioned in historical sources in the 16th century. The city was an important point on trade routes and during its existence it witnessed many historical events, including war, losses and restoration, which ultimately formed its modern appearance.

Baran is not just a city, it is a place where history and culture live in harmony, creating a unique atmosphere for all its residents and guests.
