«Archives for School»: excursion for students of the educational institution «Mogilev State College of Arts»

On December 5, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign and the pilot project «Young Archivist», students of the educational institution «Mogilev State College of Arts» visited the institution «State Archives of the Mogilev Region» with an excursion.

The children got acquainted with the composition of the archival funds, examples of the most interesting documents. The most lively interest was aroused by the presented filtration cases on residents of the Mogilev Region, driven away for forced labor in Germany during the Great Patriotic War.

During the practical part, the students searched for information using a systematic catalog and auxiliary reference card indexes of the archive.

In the reading room, a screening of the documentary film «Liberation» was held, prepared by the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents» (Dzerzhinsk).

Then the students got acquainted with the banner exhibition «Again, let’s look closer to the past», dedicated to the defense, the period of occupation and the liberation of Mogilev from the Nazi invaders.

At the end of the excursion, the guests visited the laboratory for digitizing archival documents and the archive storage, where they saw how documents are stored and their safety is ensured. During the excursion, the students were able to ask all their questions and receive comprehensive answers from the archive staff.
