Documentary exhibition «1917. Echo of the Revolution»
On November 6, 2024, the opening of the exhibition «1917. Echo of the Revolution» was held at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, prepared by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter – NARB).
The October Revolution of 1917 is one of the major political events of the 20th century, which influenced the further course of world history. For our republic, an opportunity arose to create a real statehood on the Soviet basis. Many social achievements implemented by the Bolshevik Party have now become one of the foundations of the social policy of the Republic of Belarus.
In December 1917, the Regional Executive Committee of the Soviets of Workers’, Soldiers’ and Peasants’ Deputies of the Western Region and the Front was created in Minsk as the highest body of Soviet power on the territory of Belarus. Under the leadership of Soviet and party organizations, revolutionary transformations were carried out: banks and industry were nationalized, workers’ control over production and distribution of products was established, an 8-hour work day was introduced, landlord lands were confiscated and the first collective farms of peasants were created, the network of schools was expanded, free education was introduced, and work was launched to eliminate illiteracy among the adult population.
The exhibition presents unique documents from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, which reflect the history of the October Revolution in Belarus. Of considerable interest are posters, leaflets, telegrams, appeals from various political parties, as well as photographs from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, telling about the revolutionary events in our country.
