Exhibition of photo documents «The Family Album Carefully Preserves»
On September 11, 2024, as part of the events dedicated to the Year of Quality, the institution «Zonal State Archive in Orsha» prepared an exhibition of photo documents «The Family Album Carefully Preserves», placed on display in the Museum of History and Culture of the city of Orsha.
The exhibition presents digital copies of photographs from the funds of the Vitebsk District Communications Department, the Vitebsk City Council of Workers, Peasants and Red Army Deputies, the Management Department of the Vitebsk Provincial Military Revolutionary Committee, the Management Department of the Executive Committee of the Vitebsk Provincial Council of Workers, Peasants and Red Army Deputies, stored in the archival funds of the institution «State Archive of the Vitebsk Region», as well as photographs from the fund of the Orsha Teachers’ Institute, stored in the State Archive in Orsha.
Many of the pictures were taken in the first quarter of the 20th century. The earliest photographs date back to 1915.
The presented photographs reflect the life of residents of the Vitebsk province of various professions and social classes.
Thanks to the prepared exposition, you can get acquainted with the fashion and style of clothing, suits, dresses, hats, hairstyles of the residents of the Vitebsk region more than 100 years ago and in the post-war period, see the nobility, spirituality, beauty and individuality of their faces. After all, photography is an imprint of the past, a piece of memory for the new generation. Old photographs carefully preserve the silent truth about what was before, awaken the desire to understand that distant time, and those people who look at us from yellowed photographs.
The exhibition is addressed to a wide range of people: schoolchildren, students, local historians, teachers and all those interested in the history and culture of the region, will transfer everyone into the depths of the photographs of past years, will allow you to feel their individuality, sincerity and insight.
