New arrival of documents from the personal archive of Pavel Mikhailovich Sushko and his son Pyotr Pavlovich Sushko in BGAMLI
On July 11, 2024, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art received documents from the personal archive of the poet, participant in the Great Patriotic War Pavel Mikhailovich Sushko and the poet, translator Pyotr Pavlovich Sushko. The documents of his relatives (grandfather and father) were handed over by Sergei Petrovich Sushko.
During the Great Patriotic War P.M.Sushko was a liaison officer of the Moscow partisan detachment, then a partisan of the 4th Belarusian Partisan Brigade. After the war, he participated in the restoration of the destroyed national economy.
To be published by P.M.Sushko started in 1938 in newspapers and magazines of Western Belarus. In the newspaper «Klich Partyzan» – the organ of the Miory underground district committee – in 1943 he published notes under the pseudonym «Yazep Syaunya». Composers M.Petrenko and A.Polonsky wrote music for his poems «Styazhynka» and «Oh, there was a joke». «March of the Belarusian partisans» (words by P.M. Sushko) was sung by the people’s avengers.
Poet and translator P.P.Sushko is the author of collections of satirical and humorous poems, tales, miniatures, poetic feuilletons, parodies and epigrams. In 1966–1968 he worked as the head of the department of the Miory regional newspaper «Scyag Pratsy», in 1968–1977. – correspondent for the newspapers «Vitsebski Rabochy», «On Guard of October», «Zvyazda», magazine «Vozhyk», etc. Since 1989 – senior editor at the publishing house «Polymya». He has been a member of the Writers’ Union of Belarus since 1984.
The archive-museum received biographical and creative documents of P.M. Sushko and P.P. Sushko: certificates of awarding medals «Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War», military ID (1940), manuscripts of collections of poems «Chords of the Sir» and «Native Tunes», correspondence, books with dedicatory inscriptions, family photographs, etc. . These documents will significantly replenish the funds of BGAMLI and will become important sources on the history of the reunification of Western and Eastern Belarus and the Great Patriotic War.
