Archival readings dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders took place in the city of Polotsk

On June 20, 2024, archival readings were held dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The event was organized by the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk.

Director Lazaryonok Lyudmila Viktorovna delivered a welcoming speech. The guests were presented with the archival project «Open Film Archive. We brought this day closer as best we could». Participants of the event were shown a newsreel film «On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Vitebsk region from the Nazi invaders», prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents.

Workers from museums, educational institutions, libraries, local historians, and archivists took part in the archival readings. They presented the following messages: «Armored troops of the 6th Guards Army in the battles for the city of Polotsk», «Activities of the Polotsk City Executive Committee in the post-war years», «War in the fate of man ..»., «Childhood scorched by war», «Information about the feat Anastasia Belskaya from the collection of documents of personal origin of the Zonal State Archive in Polotsk», «Nikolai Makarovich Petrenko – Belarusian amateur artist, composer, Honored Teacher of Belarus, Honorary Citizen of the city of Polotsk, participant in the Great Patriotic War».

Summing up the event, the participants noted the need and importance of holding archival readings on a regular basis, with the involvement of a wide range of the public, students and all concerned citizens of our society.
