Exhibition «We survived and won» at the National Forum on Sustainable Development

On June 19, 2024, the second National Forum on Sustainable Development was held. As part of this event, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter referred to as NARB) presented the banner exhibition «We Stood and Won,» dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. The exhibition was created on the basis of documentary materials from the National Library of Russia in collaboration with the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents.

A special place in the exhibition is given to the theme of the partisan movement. Residents of Belarusian cities and villages, young and old, stood up to defend the Fatherland – it’s not for nothing that Belarus is called a «partisan republic.»

The exhibition presents documentary materials reflecting the intense and selfless work of the Belarusian people to assist the Red Army, which liberated Europe from the Nazi yoke. In 1945, 57 evacuation hospitals were redeployed to Belarus from the rear regions of the USSR, where wounded soldiers and officers of the Red Army underwent treatment and rehabilitation. The population of the republic did everything possible to ensure that the wounded survived. Food, care and attentive care for the wounded, and free blood donation contributed to the fact that about 40 thousand Red Army soldiers returned to duty and continued the fight until Victory.

Teams of sappers selflessly worked to clear the territory of the republic from numerous explosives – mines, bombs, shells, grenades and cartridges. From 1944 to 1946 More than 9 million units of various explosives were recovered from Belarusian soil, which saved thousands of lives of Belarusians.

Thousands of Belarusians were awarded high government awards and became known to the entire Soviet people as symbols of perseverance, courage, heroism and fearlessness. Each individually and all together they survived and won.

Excursion support for the exhibition was provided by Yu.S. Prostakova, a researcher at the Department for the Use of Documents and Information.
