Visit of the Deputy Director of the Central State Archive of Film, Photo Documents and Sound Recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.A.Sataeva to the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents

From May 20 to May 24, 2024, the deputy director of the Central State Archive visited the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Audio Documents» (hereinafter referred to as BGAKFFD) in order to familiarize himself with the funds of BGAKFFD, identify documents on the history of the two states and exchange them between the archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Belarus Film-photodocuments and sound recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – TsGA KFDZ) Saule Amantaevna Sataeva.

The visit was carried out as part of the implementation of the Practical Action Plan to expand cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Committee of Archives, Documentation and Book Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus for 2024-2029 and in accordance with the Cooperation Agreement dated May 19, 2023 between BGAKFFD and TsGA KFDZ. On May 23, a working meeting was held between S.A. Sataeva and the Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Leonidovich Voinov, at which issues of further interaction between the archives of Belarus and Kazakhstan were discussed.

S.A.Sataeva familiarized herself in detail with the funds of the BGAKFFD in order to exchange documents between archival funds. Electronic copies of film and photographic documents were offered for exchange: 21 units of recording film documents with a total duration of 2 hours 47 minutes. 15 sec. and 45 photographic document recording units.

After BGAKFFD employees carried out an examination of the value of the proposed film and photographic documents and compared them with the archive database for the presence of doublets and repeats, 11 units of recording film documents with a total duration of 1 hour 35 minutes 52 seconds and 40 units of accounting photographic documents were selected for exchange.

Thanks to the work carried out, the BGAKFFD funds were replenished with valuable film documents, including those from the period of the Great Patriotic War. These are stories related to Belarus from the film magazine «Soviet Kazakhstan»: «Front on Belarusian Land», 1944; «Roaming mortars. Belorussian Front», 1944; documentary film «The Most Dearest», 1942 about those who, during the Great Patriotic War, adopted orphaned children of Ukraine, Crimea, and Belarus into their families.

Fragments of the meeting between football teams of Alma-Ata and Minsk, 1944 are of interest and are not reflected in the BGAKFFD funds; fragments of the meeting of the football teams «Dynamo» – Almaty, «ODO» – Minsk at the Minsk stadium «Pishchevik», 1946, documentary film «They make work easier», 1965 about the introduction of a new method of producing sulfuric acid at the Gomel plant.

Photo documents cover the period from the 1950s. to the present day and talk about representatives of Belarus who participated in the development of virgin lands, reflect official events with the participation of the heads of state of Belarus and Kazakhstan, the conference «Current issues of acquisition, preservation and access to audiovisual documents of the National Archival Fund», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Central Archive of the KFRS RK. On May 24, 2024, a ceremonial exchange of digital copies of stock documents between archives took place.

As a result of negotiations on further guidelines and areas of cooperation, a plan of joint events to hold exhibitions was adopted. Further joint work with the Central State Archive of the KFZ is aimed at organizing joint exhibitions, identifying and exchanging background documents.
