The institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» was visited by students of the Gomel State Technical University named after P.O.Sukhoi

May 17, 2024 20 3rd year students of Gomel State Technical University named after P.O.Sukhoi, under the guidance of senior teacher of the department of social, humanitarian and legal disciplines Natalya Rozhkova, visited the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive), located at st. Kosareva, 23.

GAGom director Andrei Suschevich spoke about what the archive is, what unique documents are stored in a state institution, as well as about the «Open Film Archive» project. We brought this day closer as best we could», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. The students were presented with the documentary film «Liberation», prepared as part of the project by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents. Also, as part of the event, students got acquainted with the documentary exhibition «The Unconquered Gomel Region».

A tour of the archive storage was conducted by an engineer of the 1st category. GAG Anna Chubykalo. In particular, Alla Petrovna spoke about fire extinguishing means. The new archive storage facility has a carbon dioxide gas system. The advantages of gas installations are compactness, ease of use, safety for the environment, effective fire fighting and no harm to stored documents. The archive stores a large volume of documents on a material with a high fire load – paper, and therefore is subject to special protection. Increased attention was paid to fire safety of the new archive storage.
