On the eve of Cosmonautics Day, a presentation of the exhibition took place at the Zonal State Archives in Novogrudok
On April 11, 2024, on the eve of Cosmonautics Day, a presentation of a poster documentary exhibition dedicated to the significant event that opened up new opportunities for humanity – the conquest of outer space – took place at the Zonal State Archive in Novogrudok.
On April 12, 1961, Soviet pilot-cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin made the world’s first flight in orbit around the Earth on the Vostok spacecraft, which lasted 108 minutes. This day was established as a holiday by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 9, 1962, and in 1968 it received international status.
Students of the 7th grade of secondary school No. 5 in Novogrudok, who attended the event, got acquainted with the history of the holiday, learned about the first space flights of natives of Belarus, about the current stage of development of astronautics in our state, and the archival documents presented at the exhibition helped schoolchildren learn about famous cosmonauts, whose names the streets of the city of Novogrudok are named. Also during the presentation, the film «Belarusians in Space», prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents, was shown.
