BSAMLA: Round table at the Institute of Linguistics named after Yakub Kolas of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus

On February 23, 2024, on the International Mother Language Day, the leading researcher of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, Mikhail Pavlovich Kenka, took part and made a report on the topic «Features of translating prose created in closely related languages» at a round table at the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

During the round table, issues of translation work on the transmission of ethnocultural realities and adaptation of the original text to a foreign cultural environment in the absence of equivalents were considered; acceptable losses are determined if, as a result of significant ethnic and cultural differences, the original ethnocultural information contained in the original text cannot fully correspond to the information contained in the translation.
