On the opening of the joint exhibition «Gomel People’s Militia Regiment: History, Feat, Memory»
November 21, 2023, as part of events dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation at the Gomel Regional Universal Library named after V.I.Lenin, the opening of the joint exhibition «Gomel People’s Militia Regiment: History, Feat, Memory» took place.
The project is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Gomel from the Nazi invaders and tells about the history of the creation, activities, organizers and participants of the Gomel militia regiment in the first months of the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition project is based on original documents and materials stored in the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus, the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region, and documentary sources from the collections of the Gomel Regional Universal Library named after V.I.Lenin.
Documents of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus are represented by orders of the regiment commander, protocols, plans for political mass work, reports on the completion of tasks, political reports, information on the combat and numerical strength of the regiment, combat and political training, deployment of posts for the protection of Gomel facilities, plans for the proposed defense, lists of personnel battalions, etc.
Materials from the state archive of public associations of the Gomel region introduce the protocols of the bureau of the Gomel regional committee, the city party committee, personal files, memories and photographs of the organizers and participants of the Gomel militia regiment.
As invited guests, the exhibition was attended by the director of the state archive of public associations of the Grodno region, Lyudmila Nikolaevna Gorbach, who provided the personal file of Sergei Osipovich Pritytsky, who, together with the Gomel regional committee and the city party committee, participated in the organization of the Gomel militia regiment.
With the financial support of the regional branch of the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers and the Spartak enterprise, for the opening of the exhibition project, the Gomel Prauda publishing house published an exhibition catalog telling about the exploits and destinies of the militia.
