On the presentation of the publication «Zahovats Eternal: Old Minutes and Contemporaries of the National Historical Archive of Belarus» at the National Historical Archive of Belarus
November 27, 2023 at 15.00 at the National Historical Archive of Belarus (Kropotkina, 55, conference hall) there will be a presentation of the popular science publication «Zahovats is Eternal: Old Minutes and Modern Times of the National Historical Archive of Belarus».
The publication is timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the National Historical Archive of Belarus – the country’s largest repository of handwritten (text and visual) documents on the history of the Belarusian people until 1917. The archive materials cover a number of periods in the history of Belarus – the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire and the Provisional Government. The book, in a popular scientific form, shows the development of archival work in Belarus from antiquity to Soviet times, the functioning of the archive’s predecessors in the 1920-1930s, as well as its history from the time of its creation in 1938 to the organization in its modern form in 1995 d. It also reveals the main directions of activity of the archive and its structural parts, and provides both a historical retrospective of each of them, and the state at the present stage.
The publication is intended for a wide range of readers interested in the development of the archival industry and the formation of documentary collections, as well as the history of Belarus in general.
