About the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Gomel from the Nazi invaders, organized on the basis of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region»

On November 20, 2023, as part of the republican action «Archives to School», employees of the institution «State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region» held an event with 9th grade students of the state educational institution «Secondary School No.66 of Gomel».

On the eve of the Day of Liberation of the city of Gomel from the Nazi invaders, a video was shown for schoolchildren about the liberation of Gomel, prepared by the state archive of film, photo and sound documents as part of the Open Film Archive project.

Also during the meeting, high school students learned about the main activities of the archive, the composition and content of its funds, the system of the created scientific reference apparatus, as well as the procedure for users in the reading room of the state archive.

Under the guidance of archivists from the information, publication and use of documents sector, schoolchildren were able to try themselves in the role of real researchers. As a result of joint work, documents about the underground movement in Gomel during the Great Patriotic War were identified in the funds of the state archive.

At the end of the event, the archivists donated copies of identified documents to the school for participation in the regional competition «Young Archivist» and conducted a sightseeing tour of the archives.
