BGAMLI visited the Museum of History and Culture of the Jews of Belarus

On October 25, 2023, employees of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, as part of the Year of Peace and Creation and on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the destruction of the Minsk Ghetto, visited the Museum of History and Culture of the Jews of Belarus.

Employees got acquainted with the museum’s exhibition and learned about famous representatives of Jewish history, religion and culture in Belarus.

During the meeting with colleagues, the archival activities of the organization were discussed: the museum stores more than 10 thousand documentary sources on the history of Belarusian Jewry, urban and local Yiddish culture, and personal archives.

Special attention of specialists was attracted by documents and material evidence of the tragic events of the Minsk ghetto and the heroic struggle of the Minsk underground fighters. The archivists were impressed by the unique objects that survived the Nazi death camps and were subsequently donated to the museum by interested parties from all over the world.
