On the holding by employees of the institution «Zonal State Archive in Orsha» within the framework of the action «Archives for School» lectures on the topic «Chernobyl tragedy in the documents of the archive»
April 26, 2023 as part of the «Archives to School» campaign and events dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation, with students of the 8th grade of the state educational institution «Secondary School No. 17 of Orsha» archive employees held an information hour on the topic: «The Chernobyl tragedy in the documents of the archive», timed to coincide with the 37th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. They remembered the terrible tragedy of that time, the feat of people who showed courage and courage in eliminating the consequences of the accident.
The disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the most destructive in the history of nuclear energy. According to the International Nuclear Event Scale, the Chernobyl disaster is ranked seventh, the highest level of damage inflicted. More than 200 thousand square kilometers were subjected to radioactive contamination, of which 70% – on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
As a result of the accident at the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, vast territories of five regions of Belarus, in which 27 cities and 2697 settlements were located, where more than 2 million people lived, were more or less exposed to radioactive contamination. The affected area was 45.52 thousand kilometers. More than 20% of the territory of our republic was classified as affected. 115 thousand people were forced to evacuate from the 30-kilometer Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
In order for Chernobyl with its tragedy to truly remain in the past forever, there is one – the only way out: to remember it constantly.
