The Socio-Economic Situation of Mogilev in the Documents of the Discussion of the Constitution of 1936
On March 15, the Republic of Belarus annually celebrates Constitution Day. This is a significant date, both for the state as a whole and for every citizen.
The constitution, as the basic law of the state, determines its legal and political features, sets the vector for the further development of society.
The prerequisites for the Constitution of sovereign Belarus were, among other things, the national legal construction of the BSSR. As an example, the institution “State Archive of the Mogilev Region” presents excerpts from the results of the discussion of the Constitution of 1936, containing information on the development of various areas of urban life by that time.
There were 40 different enterprises in Mogilev, among them an artificial fiber factory, a car repair plant, a tannery, a plant named after. Dimitrov and others. In agriculture in the territory
136 tractors worked in the Mogilev region. There were 6 hectares of arable land for each yard of a collective farmer.
There was one higher educational institution, 3 workers’ faculty, 9 secondary schools in the city. In total, 33,958 people studied at educational institutions in the city and district. In Mogilev there were 3 libraries with 48,475 volumes of books, a circus, a cinema, a theater.
The medical facilities of the city included 520 beds, which were serviced by 28 doctors and 80 nurses. There were 2 ambulances. Future medical workers were trained by the feldsher school, where 160 students studied, and the medical college with 1,200 students.
Such documentary materials reflect not only the development of the political system, but also the regional socio-economic situation.
