In March 2022, the “star march” of the cadets of Vitebsk Cadet School was held to the places of partisan glory of the Vitebsk region. The campaign was led by famous Vitebsk local historian, teacher of the cadet school, candidate of historical sciences N. V. Pivovar. The head of the department of publication and use of documents at the State Archives of Vitebsk Region V. P. Kokhanko took part in the event.
The length of the route was about 27 km.
The action was timed to the 80th anniversary of the feat of the Hero of the Soviet Union Mikhail Silnitsky, who was killed in March 1942 in the battle with Nazi punitive forces near the village of Ploty.
The trip took place as part of the events dedicated to the Year of Historical Memory.
The route ran through the places associated with the name of the hero: the headquarters of the partisan brigade named after the Red Banner Lenin Komsomol (D. F. Raitsev’s brigade) near Khomyakovo, the place of the battle between the partisans and the Nazi invaders in which M. F. Silnitsky was killed, and the place of his burial in the village of Kurino.
The participants of the expedition traditionally pay attention to the localization of the burial places of the Great Patriotic War, discovered on the basis of archival data and talks with the inhabitants of Kurino village. In particular, the burial place of partisan L. A. Shlyakhto killed in 1942 was localized, previously not mentioned in historical sources.
After visiting the memorable places, the cadets visited the school museum at Kurino and the ethnographic corner in the local library.
