Opening of the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the architect Lubov Usova

The Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation opened an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the architect Lyubov Dmitrievna Usova (06.09.1921 – 02.01.2015).

Lubov Usova was born in Irkutsk, graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1947, after which she came to work in Minsk, where she participated in the restoration of the city destroyed by the war. She designed the Theatre for Young Spectators, the building of the Regional Committee and City Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus (together with A.P. Voinov), the main building of the Belarusian National Technical University (together with L.N. Ryminsky).

Lubov Usova performed a number of works on the binding and reconstruction of schools, kindergartens, designed residential buildings in the area of Privokzalnaya Square (together with V.I. Gerashchenko), for workers of the Motocycle Plant, residential quarters of factories for electric boards and spare parts, and much more.

One of the favorite works of the talented architect was the reconstruction of the Gorky Children’s Park.

For her creative work, the architect Usova was repeatedly awarded with Diplomas of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, Certificates of Honor and Diplomas of the Minskproekt Institute, the Union of Architects of the USSR and the BSSR. In 1989, Lubov Usova was included in the book of honor of the Minskproekt Institute.

The exhibition features documents from the personal collection of Lubov Usova: photographs, drawings, sketch designs, plans, and the architect’s memories of her work and life in postwar Minsk.
