The Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (BelNIIDAD) issued a new General Records Schedule for the National Archival Holdings of the Republic of Belarus.

The Schedule defines retention periods for records created by the government agencies and other institutions. This is used in preparing records classification schemes, file plans, in conducting records appraisal, filing, acquisition, file inventories, etc.

The Schedule is mandatory for use by all institutions and organizations in the Republic of Belarus and also by individual businessmen.

The National Historical Archives of Belarus (NIAB) held a presentation of the 5th volume of the academic edition “The Armorial of Belarusian Nobility”. The speakers at the event were NIAB Director D. Yatsevich, NIAB Deputy Director D. Liseichikov, Division Head of Records Use, Information and Organizational Work at the Department for Archives and Records Management G. Zholnerkevich, Department Head of the Modern and Contemporary History of Belarus at the Belarusian State University V. Makarevich, Head of the Centre of Special Historical Sciences and Anthropology at the National Academy of Sciences V. Golubev etc.

The book appeared thanks to the cooperation between the National Historical Archives of Belarus and the Belarus Publishing House.

The event included an exhibition of most interesting archival documents that were used in preparing this volume.

The National Technical Committee on Standardization TK BY 28 “Records Management” held a session in Minsk on 27 April 2018. The participants included the authorized representatives of member organizations of the Committee: Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Operational and Analytical Centre under the RB President, the Belarusian Research Centre of Electronic Records, the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Science, the Belarusian State Archives of Technical and Scientific Documentation, the Belarusian State Institute of Standardization and Certification, etc.

The main issues on the agenda were the report of activities of the National Technical Committee on Standardization TK BY 28 “Records Management”, the renewal of the membership of the Committee, and the plan of standardization in records management.

The session also discussed the issues relating to the normative and technical appraisal of the draft of the Preliminary State Standard of the Republic of Belarus STB P ISO 30300-2011 “Information and Documentation. Systems of Records Management. Basic Regulations and Vocabulary”.

The Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art (BGAMLI) has opened an exhibition dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of prominent Belarusian writer, honored figure in culture of Belarus, Yanka MAUR (1883-1971).

Yanka Maur (Ivan Mikhailovich Fyodorov) – one of the founders of Belarusian children’s literature, the classic writer in the genres of adventure, fantasy and science fiction.

The BGAMLI Archive accessioned papers relating to Yanka Maur on 3 July 1984 from his son – a known physicist, academician Fyodor Fyodorov. Today BGAMLI’s personal collection of Yanka Maur holds 165 storage items. These are manuscript copies of his unpublished novel Dzyauchyna-matsi, novellas Shlyakh z tsemry, Apovest buduchykh dzyon, Tysyacha dzyon, plays, stories, sketches, essays, notes, satirical articles, as well as correspondence, records of his service and literary activities, many photographs. Some of these documents are presented at the exhibition stands “His way”, “The light of adventures and fantasy”, “His talent – to children”, “From the grateful readers”, “With his literary colleagues”, “In the circle of his family”, “Yanka Maur and Yakub Kolas”, “Yanka Maur – Esperantist”, “Memory”.

At the opening of the exhibition the BGAMLI director Ganna Zapartyka told about the role of Yanka Maur in the Belarusian literature and about his personal archival collection. Especially interesting for the audience was a meeting with Yanka Maur’s grandchildren Marya Mitskevich and Andrey Fyodorov, who shared their vision of Yanka Maur’s creative heritage, recollected the most memorable episodes from the life of their grandfather and told about the new editions of his works.
