While primarily an outstanding poet, he also wrote prose and plays, conducted research into folklore and the history of Belarusian literature, and translated works from other languages. His poetry seamlessly blends deep lyricism with humor, civic passion with philosophical reflection, and the stylization of folk-song motifs with a rich, scholarly vocabulary. He served for many years in the leadership of the Belarusian Union of Writers and as a People’s Deputy; he chaired the Commission on Education, Culture, and the Preservation of Historical Heritage and was a key drafter of the BSSR Law on Languages, adopted on January 26, 1990. In 1991, Nil Siamionavich was awarded the honorary title of People’s Poet of Belarus.

The Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art holds a personal archive collection (Fond 533) containing the poet’s documents—including manuscripts, publications, reviews, and private and official correspondence—totaling 5,737 items.
