On August 27, 2026, a ceremony initiating young specialists into the archivist profession took place. The event was held for the first time at two venues: the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB)<\/strong> and the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter, the Department)<\/strong>. Nineteen young people, for whom working in an archive was their first job, joined the national archival institutions as archivists, research trainees, and software engineers.<\/p>\n

The event began at the NARB<\/strong> with an interactive quest-tour, during which the young specialists learned about the main activities of archival institutions: acquisition, preservation, digitization, use, and scientific reference systems. The young specialists easily completed the tasks in each area of work.<\/p>\n

In the next part of the initiation ceremony, the archivists met with the heads of the national archival institutions (RAI), who presented their archives. The following addressed the young specialists: Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB), E.A. Stukanova<\/strong>; Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, M.M.Glushakov<\/strong>, who also represented the NIAB in Grodno; Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (hereinafter referred to as BGAKFFD), A.N.Gonchar<\/strong>; Acting Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation, G.S.Zholnerkevich<\/strong>; Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Affairs, A.E.Rybakov<\/strong>; Director of the Belarusian Center for Digitalization of Archival Activities, D.V.Shabrov<\/strong>; Director of the Central Laboratory for Document Preservation of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus, S.I.Mezga<\/strong>; and Leading Archivist of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, E.A.Lukina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event continued in the Department’s new building on ul. 5 Myasnikova Street. They were given a tour of the Department and presented the tablet exhibitions \u00abLet’s Restore Belarus Together\u00bb<\/strong> and \u00abHistory of the Archival Industry in Belarus\u00bb<\/strong>, as well as a showcase of archival publishing projects.<\/p>\n

Following the traditional photo opportunity, the young specialists posed with the industry’s leadership and distinguished guests.<\/p>\n

During the main part of the event, O.L.Voinov<\/strong>, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus<\/strong>, delivered a report entitled \u00abOn the State of Archival Science in the Republic of Belarus in 2026\u00bb<\/strong>. He noted the growth dynamics of key indicators in the industry and discussed in detail the use of archival documents. Strengthening the material and technical resources of archival institutions was a prominent focus of the Director’s report. In conclusion, O.L.Voinov<\/strong> briefed those present on the work being done in the industry with young people. He emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive support to young specialists and involving them in the social and cultural life of archival institutions. Oleg Leonidovich expressed confidence that young workers will be actively involved in the use of artificial intelligence technologies in archival work and will also excel in the publishing field.<\/p>\n

V.I.Zubrik<\/strong>, Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Employees of State and Other Institutions, spoke about the main areas of work and the role of trade unions in protecting workers’ rights and encouraged young professionals to actively participate in public events. The 2026 graduates were also presented with union membership cards.<\/p>\n

Professor A.G.Kokhanovsky<\/strong>, Dean of the Faculty of History at the Belarusian State University, welcomed the young archivists, noting the close collaboration between the faculty and archival institutions in training. Alexander Gennadievich noted the positive dynamics in the training of future archivists and in the context of targeted recruitment.<\/p>\n

Alexander Rutkevich<\/strong>, the young archivist expressed confidence that the new generation of industry professionals will make a significant contribution to the development of archival science and the preservation of historical memory.<\/p>\n

All participants in the dedication ceremony were presented with commemorative gifts from the leadership of the archival industry and the Minsk city organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Employees of State and Other Institutions.<\/p>\n

The event was held in a warm and informal atmosphere. Initiation into archiving has become a good tradition in the industry. We look forward to welcoming new young specialists to the archival institutions of our republic.<\/p>\n
