{"id":1023868,"date":"2026-04-28T08:37:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T05:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/en\/?p=1023868"},"modified":"2026-04-28T08:37:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T05:37:25","slug":"on-the-40th-anniversary-of-the-chernobyl-nuclear-power-plant-disaster-to-be-held-at-the-state-archives-of-the-gomel-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/en\/news\/1023868","title":{"rendered":"On the 40th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster to Be Held at the State Archives of the Gomel Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 27, 2026, <strong>a staff meeting<\/strong> was held at <strong>the State Archives of the Gomel Region<\/strong> to commemorate <strong>the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster of April 26, 1986<\/strong>. <strong>Archive Director Yuri Shestopalov<\/strong> addressed the staff, describing the scale of the man-made disaster that changed the lives of thousands of people and divided the world into \u00abbefore\u00bb and \u00abafter\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abOver the past forty years, Belarus has traveled a difficult path from the aftermath of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster to the economic recovery of the affected regions, particularly in the Gomel Region. In April 2026, a decision was made to remove land parcels totaling over 940 hectares from the category of radiation-hazardous lands and re-purpose them for economic use\u00bb. This demonstrates the ongoing process of rehabilitating lands in the Gomel region affected by the Chernobyl disaster through improved radiation conditions\u00bb<\/em>, concluded Yuri Shestopalov.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A photo exhibition, \u00abChernobyl: A View Through Time\u00bb<\/strong>, was held in the archive&#8217;s foyer. <strong>Senior researcher Maya Vaschenko<\/strong> presented it to colleagues.
