On the eve of one of the most tragic dates on the calendar\u2014March 22, when Belarus honors the victims of the Khatyn tragedy<\/strong> \u2014 staff from the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno<\/strong> held a Unified Memory Lesson<\/strong>. The event was more than just a history lesson, but an act of civic remembrance of the price the Belarusian people paid for their right to life.<\/p>\n

High school students gathered in the assembly hall of Secondary School No.12<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The meeting focused on the tragic events of the Great Patriotic War. Nearly 300 Belarusian settlements shared the tragic fate of Khatyn. The Molodechno District is no exception. The students were presented with a virtual exhibition, \u00abIn Memory of Burned Villages\u00bb<\/strong>, based on original documents from the Zonal Archives collection. Participants were able to view archival records, reports of extraordinary commissions, lists of names of deported and executed civilians, and other materials. Digital copies of yellowed sheets of paper became silent witnesses to crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n

The students were also shown the film \u00abAshes of Childhood\u00bb, produced by young archivists as part of the international creative work competition \u00abNo Statute of Limitations. Unconquered\u00bb<\/strong>. It tells not only of the physical destruction of young lives in the fires of Khatyn but also reminds us of the moral duty of modern generations to gather these \u00abashes\u00bb into a single memory to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy. The archivists emphasized that children were the most defenseless category of victims of fascism, and preserving information about them is a matter of national security and morality.<\/p>\n

\u00abArchives are not just repositories of papers; they are the immune system of national memory. As long as documents confirming the atrocities of fascism exist, denying history is impossible\u00bb,<\/em> concluded Maria Mechkovskaya, archivist for the Department of Document Use and Publication<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
