On March 12, 2026, the book and documentary exhibition \u00abThe Basic Law of the State\u00bb<\/strong> by the National Library of Belarus<\/strong> and the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus<\/strong> opened in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus<\/strong>. Timed to coincide with Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus<\/strong>, the exhibition features over 100 documents reflecting the chronology of the preparation and adoption of the Constitution of our country, as well as the amendments and additions to it.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, I.P.Sergienko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is the Basic Law of the state, with a glorious past and a great future. It symbolizes the strength and independence of our country.<\/p>\n

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presented copies of archival documents at the exhibition: the Law of the Republic of Belarus of March 15, 1994 \u00abOn the Procedure for the Entry into Force of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus\u00bb; draft Constitutions of the Republic of Belarus from 1993 and 1994; and minutes of the meeting of the working group of the Constitutional Commission of the Supreme Council of the BSSR; Minutes of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for Elections and Holding National Referendums, and other documents.<\/p>\n

Materials from the collection of the National Library of Belarus include original printed copies of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus from various periods; scholarly commentaries on them; encyclopedic and reference publications on constitutional law, the application of the Basic Law of the state, and its role and place in the country’s system of government; current publications in periodicals; and books on the national symbols of Belarus.<\/p>\n

The exhibition also features illustrative material: copies of Soviet-era posters; photographs of the signing of the Constitution by the President of the Republic of Belarus following the 1996 and 2022 national referendums, and meetings of the Constitutional Commission.<\/p>\n

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Constitution, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and the origins of the symbols of the Republic of Belarus\u2014the flag, coat of arms, and anthem. Young people will have the opportunity to revisit and reflect on the concept of law, the civil and political rights they possess, and the responsibilities they bear.<\/p>\n
