The management and staff of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art express their deep sorrow and sincere condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Vladimir Ivanovich Karizna.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vladimir Ivanovich Karizna was a poet, translator, journalist, and People’s Poet of Belarus. He was a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, the Golden Cupid Literary Prize, and the Trade Union Prize of Belarus<\/strong>. He was born on May 25, 1938, in the village of Zakruzhka, Minsk District. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Belarusian State University and taught Belarusian and Russian at the Opsovskaya Secondary School in the Braslav District. He also headed the literary association at the Braslavskaya Zvyazda district newspaper. From 1967 to 1980, he was a member of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art. He was editor, senior editor, and head of the Belarusian music department at Republican Radio. From 1980 to 1981, he was editor of the science and arts department of the literary magazine \u00abPolymya\u00bb. He then became senior editor and head of the preschool literature editorial department at the Yunastva publishing house. Since 2002, he has served as deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine \u00abKrynica\u00bb.<\/p>\n

He is the author of several collections of children’s poetry, the lyrics to more than 200 songs (including \u00abLakeland of the Blue\u00bb, \u00abBelarus May Sinyavkaya\u00bb, \u00abLand of My Greatness\u00bb, \u00abSong of My Native Land\u00bb, and others), and one of the composers of the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus.<\/p>\n
