Path to Immortality», dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of one of the most prominent representatives of the satirical movement in national literature, the outstanding Belarusian playwright, novelist, fabulist, translator, literary scholar, and People’s Writer of Belarus, Kondrat Kondratievich Atrakhovich (Kondrat Krapiva).

Documentary materials from the NARB and publications from the NLB collection, displayed at the exhibition, reveal various aspects of Kondrat Krapiva’s work and demonstrate the wide range of genres of his works. The NARB is presenting the most interesting and significant documents from its archival collections at the exhibition. These include materials related to the state and party activities of K.K.Krapiva (Atrakhovich): resolutions of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, minutes of meetings of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus on his appointments, an order of the Supreme Soviet of the SSR awarding the medal «Partisan of the Patriotic War» 1st degree, posters featuring biographies of K.K.Atrakhovich, a candidate for deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, a certificate of his election as deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, the personal record of K.K.Atrakhovich (Krapiva), a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, and photographs of members of the BSSR delegation to the United Nations Conference in San Francisco. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the personal file of K.K.Atrakhovich (Krapiva), a student at the Pedagogical Faculty of BSU, dating back to 1925, including an autobiography, birth certificate, and a photograph from that time. The central place in the exhibition is occupied by books presented by the National Library of Belarus. Among the valuable exhibits are Kondrat Krapiva’s first collections of satire, «Oste» (1925) and «Krapiva» (1925), along with the allegorical poem «Krapiva» (1922), which scholars call his poetic declaration. Also on display are newspaper publications of his first satirical verse feuilletons, published in the newspapers «Krasnoarmeyskaya Pravda» and «Sovetskaya Belarus» in 1922.

Krapiva’s work also led him to the theater, where his plays enjoyed long-standing popularity. Krapiva’s works were staged at many theaters across the USSR. The Yanka Kupala Belarusian Academic Theater alone has performed his plays approximately eight hundred times. The writer’s greatest success was with the comedy «Who Laughs Last» (1939), which is rightfully considered one of the best in 20th-century European comedy. Over eighty theaters staged this play, and it was adapted for film after the war.

K.K.Atrakhovich was also a distinguished linguist and the creator of numerous dictionaries.

The exhibition presents publications and documents in chronological order, allowing each visitor to explore the life and work of Kondrat Kondratovich through books, photographs, and archival materials, and to experience and visualize the fruits of his labor.

The book and documentary exhibition «Kondrat Krapiva: The Path to Immortality» is a dialogue with this great writer, whose thoughts remain relevant today.

1.
