On November 6, 2025, a staff meeting<\/strong> was held at the State Archives of the Gomel Region<\/strong> to commemorate the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution<\/strong>. Archive Director Yuri Vasilyevich Shestopalov<\/strong> addressed colleagues with information about the history of the national holiday.<\/p>\n

\u00abOn November 7 (October 25, old style), 1917, an uprising began in Petrograd, organized by the Bolshevik Party under the leadership of V.I.Lenin. The revolution culminated in the establishment of Soviet power. A state emerged across most of the territory of the former Russian Empire, which in 1922 became the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or USSR, and which existed until 1991. Belarus (formerly the BSSR) became one of the founding members of the Soviet Union\u00bb<\/em>, said Yuri Vasilyevich.<\/p>\n

Andrei Anatolyevich Gurzhiy, First Deputy Head of Justice of the Main Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee<\/strong>, attended the meeting. He also congratulated the archivists on the upcoming national holiday, October Revolution Day.<\/p>\n

Andrei Anatolyevich explained that until 1991, November 7 was the main holiday of the USSR and was known as the Day of the Great October Socialist Revolution. Workers’ demonstrations and festive parades took place on this day. Belarus is the only country in the post-Soviet space that celebrates November 7 as October Revolution Day. Belarus has preserved this holiday because it is part of our history.<\/p>\n
