The «5th Fort Museum» branch houses the exhibit «Fort No.5 of the Brest Fortress» (2021). On November 1, 1965, the Brest Fortress was ceremoniously awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal at the Lenin Komsomol Theatre in Brest.

The ceremony was attended by delegations from the CPSU Central Committee, the Communist Party of Belarus Central Committee led by P.M. Masherov, the head and members of the Government of the Byelorussian SSR, military representatives – delegations from the USSR Ministry of Defense (led by Marshal of the Soviet Union I.Kh. Bagramyan) and the Belarusian Military District, representatives of hero cities, regions of the republic, and the city of Minsk, defenders of the Brest Fortress, and representatives of the military units that liberated Brest in July 1944.

The Brest Fortress is of great significance both as a symbol of courage and heroism, particularly for the heroic defense at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, and as an important historical and memorial complex. It became the first fortress to withstand the Nazi onslaught on June 22, 1941, and held its ground for over a month, slowing the enemy’s advance and setting an example for the world.

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus has prepared a virtual exhibition of archival documents to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal to the Brest Hero Fortress.
