On October 6, 2025, Yuri Vasilyevich Shestopalov, Director of the State Archives of the Gomel Region<\/strong>, and Svetlana Anatolyevna Primakova, Chair of the archive’s primary trade union<\/strong>, congratulated the staff on their professional holiday \u2013 Archivist’s Day<\/strong>. Addressing his colleagues with best wishes, Yuri Vasilyevich said:<\/p>\n

\u00abArchivist documents are primary sources and the factual basis for understanding the development of world history. The work of archivists is essential, as they work with the past, which is needed today and in the future. It is thanks to the work of archivists that the country’s historical documentary heritage is preserved and preserved, allowing descendants to learn more about the history of their country and the lives of their ancestors. Scholars, teachers, students, and researchers gain access to invaluable materials. This provides the basis for scientific dissertations, books, articles, and museum exhibits\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, our archive continues to actively promote archival documents related to the occupation of Gomel from 1941 to 1943 and the perpetuation of the memory of fallen heroes. Archive specialists work with the younger generation in schools and universities, as well as with work collectives.<\/p>\n

This year, international contacts with the archives of the Russian Federation have been established and continue. Through international cooperation, archivists shared their work experiences and held joint events dedicated to the Great Victory via videoconferencing.<\/p>\n

From October 1-3, 2025, a joint meeting of the archival services of Belarus and Russia<\/strong> was held to discuss issues of preserving their shared historical and documentary heritage and ensuring its accessibility for research. The archival collection of the State Archive of the Gomel Region is the custodian of historical memory, which Western ideologists will not be able to rewrite on the internet.<\/p>\n

We are grateful to all the archivists who have worked in the archive over the years. Today, the team is building on the achievements of previous generations of archivists. Thanks to your professionalism, attention to detail, and passion for your work, the archives are becoming accessible and understandable to everyone interested in the history of the region. \u00abI wish you health, success, prosperity, optimism, new achievements in the field of archival work, and all the blessings of life\u00bb<\/em>, Yuri Vasilyevich concluded.<\/p>\n
