September 2025 marked the 115th anniversary of the birth of Alexey Vasilyevich Lykov, a Soviet thermal physicist, professor, academician, and inventor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1956, A.V.Lykov became head of the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR (ITMO), which later spun off the Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, the Belarusian branch of the G.M.Krzhizhanovsky Power Engineering Institute, and the Central Research Institute for Integrated Use of Water Resources (TsNIIKIVR). For its significant scientific achievements and success in training scientific personnel, ITMO was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, a high government award, in 1969.<\/p>\n

A promotional video for the exhibition \u00abHe headed the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR\u00bb<\/strong> has been posted on the BGAKFFD YouTube channel<\/strong><\/a> to commemorate the 115th anniversary of the birth of Alexei Vasilyevich Lykov, a Soviet thermal physicist, professor, academician, and inventor.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents<\/strong> holds approximately 20 photographic documents from 1958 to 1974 and six film documents from 1958 to 1979, all related to the scientific work of A.V.Lykov. Photographic and film documents (stories from the newsreel \u00abSavetskaya Belarus\u00bb and the documentaries \u00abWe Live in Minsk\u00bb (1958), \u00abBelarus – Year 70\u00bb (1970), \u00abArsenal of Progress\u00bb (1970) allow us to see A.V.Lykov in his laboratories and office, during scientific presentations, meetings with colleagues, including foreign ones, and so on. One of the stories from the newsreel \u00abNavuka i Tekhnika\u00bb No.1-2 for 1979 is dedicated to the work of the A.V.Lykov Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR.<\/p>\n

A.V.Lykov’s contribution to science has received well-deserved recognition. In 1956, he was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, and in 1957, a full member of the USSR Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture. That same year, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist and Engineer of the RSFSR. One of the thermodynamic similarity criteria, the Lykov number, is named in his honor. During his scientific career, Lykov supervised 130 PhD candidates, 27 of whom became doctors of science.<\/p>\n

Lykov died on June 28, 1974, and is buried at the Vagankovskoye Cemetery in Moscow.<\/p>\n

In 1975, the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR was named after Lykov<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
