On May 2, 2025, a round table \u00ab80 years of the Great Victory\u00bb<\/strong> was held at the institution \u00abState Archives of the Gomel Region\u00bb<\/strong>. The event was attended by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, representatives of public associations, archivists and schoolchildren of Gomel.<\/p>\n

The director of the archive Yuri Shestopalov<\/strong> addressed the participants with words about the historical significance of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism. The people of the Soviet Union paid an incredible price for it – more than 26 million dead and tens of millions of ruined lives. Indisputable evidence of the significance of the victory over Nazi Germany are archival newsreels and documents of the war years. The task of the younger generation is to preserve historical facts and prevent their rewriting or distortion.<\/p>\n

Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Kazachok<\/strong> spoke about the difficult political situation in the world. The young generation faces an important task – to prevent a repeat of the events of World War II. To do this, it is necessary to know the history of our homeland, sacredly preserve the memory of the heroes who gave us a peaceful sky.<\/p>\n

The chairperson of the Novobelitsky district organization of Gomel \u00abBelaya Rus\u00bb Lyubov Tkach<\/strong> spoke about the work of public associations to preserve the memory of fallen soldiers. Caring for the graves of the fallen is a sacred duty of the modern generation.<\/p>\n

The chairman of the public organization \u00abUnion of Officers\u00bb of the Novobelitsky district of Gomel Yuri Lebedev<\/strong> and a member of the \u00abVeterans Council\u00bb retired lieutenant colonel Valery Aksenov<\/strong> told the children about the memories of their fathers who fought for the Great Victory. The participants of the round table honored the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the Great Victory with a minute of silence.<\/p>\n

The event was accompanied by performances by archivists with poems and songs about the war. A documentary film of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents \u00abHistory of the Great Victory\u00bb<\/strong> was shown.<\/p>\n
