During the speech, the topics of the political and socio-economic situation in the Republic of Belarus on the eve of the 1995 referendum; issues proposed for national discussion; voting results and the impact they had on the future of the country were touched upon. The 1995 referendum established equal status for the Russian and Belarusian languages, the government received a people&#8217;s mandate for a course of economic integration with the Russian Federation, and the country acquired new state symbols.
