On April 26, 1986, in the first hours after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, a firefighter from the independent paramilitary fire department No. 6 for the protection of the city of Pripyat, a native of the Braginsky district of the Gomel region, Vasily Ignatenko, took part in extinguishing the fire at the exploded 4th reactor. Having received a high dose of radiation, he died on May 13, 1986 in the 6th Radiological Hospital in Moscow. Subsequently, the life and feat of the Belarusian firefighter were immortalized in a permanent personal exhibition of his documents and things in the Bragin Historical Museum with an art gallery.<\/p>\n

The Zonal State Archive in Rechitsa<\/strong> contains documents on the creation of an exhibition dedicated to Vasily Ignatenko in the Bragin Museum: decision No. 779 of the Bragin District Executive Committee of November 30, 2007 (F. 214. Op. 2. D. 439. L. 95) and photographs from the opening of the hall in memory of V.I. Ignatenko in 2008 from the firefighter\u2019s personal origin fund (No. 879).<\/p>\n
