We remember everyone\u00bb<\/strong> workers of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation laid flowers at <strong>the \u00abPit\u00bb<\/strong> memorial located on Melnikaite Street in Minsk.<\/p>\n<p>The memorial was erected on the site of one of the largest Jewish ghettos in Europe. From March 2 to 4, 1942, about five thousand Jews were exterminated here.<\/p>\n<p>The Nazis showed special cynicism and cruelty when liquidating a Jewish orphanage. 200 orphans together with their teachers were simply thrown into a pit and covered with earth. Children screamed and begged for mercy, and an SS officer walked along the ditch and threw candy at them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A modest obelisk appeared at this place in <strong>1947<\/strong> &#8211; it was the first and for a long time the only monument to the victims of the Holocaust on the territory of the USSR.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>2000<\/strong>, the sculptural composition <strong>\u00abThe Last Path\u00bb<\/strong> (author <strong>Leonid Levin<\/strong>) appeared in the \u00abPit\u00bb memorial complex &#8211; a group of doomed martyrs descending to the bottom of the pit.<\/p>\n<p>Archive workers observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Nazi regime.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/01-18.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" id=\"media-1042704\" class=\"wp-image-1042704 alignnone size-full\" width=\"80%\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/02-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" id=\"media-1042705\" class=\"wp-image-1042705 alignnone size-medium\" width=\"80%\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/03-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" id=\"media-1042706\" class=\"wp-image-1042706 alignnone size-medium\" width=\"50%\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the republican action \u00abBelarus remembers.
