In 1958, one of the youngest cities in our country, Novopolotsk<\/strong>, the Belarusian \u00aboil capital\u00bb, was founded. The beginning of the history of the city was the adoption in March 1958 by the leadership of the Byelorussian SSR of the decision to organize the All-Union shock Komsomol construction site for the construction of a petrochemical complex.<\/p>\n

Designed and built according to the original project, the city stretched along the left bank of the Western Dvina. On the site of seven villages of the Polotsk region (Sloboda, Seredoma, Plaksy, Vasilevtsy, Podkasteltsy, Dubrovo, Kozina), a construction settlement arose. By a decree of the Supreme Council of the BSSR on October 22, 1959, it received the name \u00abPolotsk\u00bb, and since December 14, 1963, in connection with the construction of an oil refinery complex, located on the site of the villages of Troitskaya, Druchany, Shpinkova, Dachevshchina, Noviki, Zui, etc., the village was elevated to the rank of a city of regional subordination and became known as Novopolotsk.<\/p>\n
