    Records of the revolutionary committees and local authorities illustrate the formation\r\nand strengthening of Soviet power in the Polotsk region, the creation of the new\r\ngovernment, the first steps of Soviet power, the foundation and activity of the village\r\npeasants committees and other social units, national and land issues, the formation of the\r\nRed Army units, the frontier regime, elections to the local government, referendums,\r\neconomics, science, culture, health care, sports, public order, international relations,\r\nthe protection of citizens rights. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of the district control commissions and workers-&-peasants inspections,\r\nmunicipal and district people’s inspection committees contain data on the practices of the\r\npeople’s control inspectors, materials concerning the inspection of various organizations,\r\nand the investigation of citizens’ claims and inquiries.\u00a0 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of justice, prosecutor’s, courts, notary offices and militia illustrate the\r\nwork of various legal institutions, the observance of law in the economic sector, the\r\nstrengthening of law and public order, public tranquility, responsibility for violation of\r\nlaw, judicial assistance to the population, legal defence, and notarial acts, and more. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of social welfare departments and labour bureaus contain data on the\r\nregistration, distribution and conservation of labour resources, labour recruitment, and\r\nprovision of pensions. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The issues of planned economics, the economic and socialist development, and the\r\nproduction specializations are reflected in the fonds of the municipal, district, region\r\nand okrug planning commissions. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The issues of financing, crediting, local budget, allocation and expenditure of\r\nfinancial resources, financial and tax policy, pricing and insurance are reflected in the\r\nfonds of the town, district and region financing departments,\u00a0state-run banks,\r\ninsurance and taxation inspections. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    Records of various industrial enterprises and labour collectives illustrate the\r\nindustrial development, the organization of socialist labour, the increase in production\r\ncapacities, the output of industrial production and consumer goods, management and\r\nplanning system, economic incentives, labour protection, accident prevention, industrial\r\nsanitation, case studies and professional training.\u00a0 <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of agriculture, forestry and water industry contain data on land tenure and\r\nnationalization, the collectivization of agriculture, the organization of agricultural\r\nartels, state farms and machine-&-tractor stations, land reclamation, sowing and\r\nharvesting campaigns, and forest management.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The issues of construction, architecture, reconstruction, town planning and development\r\nare reflected in the fonds of capital construction boards, town and district executive\r\ncommittees, construction-&-mounting boards. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of trade, catering, supply, purchase and sale institutions contain data on\r\nthe network of stores and public catering establishments, service and trade, the\r\ndistribution of marketable stock and supply of goods into the trading network; the\r\norganization of agricultural fairs and contests in trades, and more.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The fonds of educational institutions contain data on the organization and work of\r\nhigher and specialized secondary educational establishments, comprehensive schools,\r\nchildren’s homes and kindergartens, factory schools and vocational schools, and cultural\r\nestablishments. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The development of physical education and sports, the work of sports societies, schools\r\nand clubs, holding of sports competitions and mass sports events are represented in\r\nrecords of various sports and physical education institutions. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The development of mass media and the participation of citizens in the discussion of\r\nacute political issues and public life in the region are reflected in records of the\r\nregional radio committee and newspaper editorial offices. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

    The issues of medical assistance to the population, preventive health care, children’s\r\nhealth, the provision of drugs and medical facilities are reflected in records of health\r\ncare departments, hospitals, local medical associations, and the children’s sanatorium. <\/p>\r\n\r\n
