Historical background"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"submenu\">\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=975391\">Contacts<\/a><br>\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=262460\">Description of holdings<\/a>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=675601\">Finding aids<\/a><\/div>\r\n<h2>Historical background<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p>The State Archives of Mogilev Region was founded on July 5, 1938. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>In 1941 the Archives had 1 316 fonds with 650 000 items. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>In the Second World War part of documents were evacuated into the Soviet area\r\nunoccupied by the Nazis; the building was burned to the ground; 1 200 fonds (620 000\r\nitems) as well as reference and library materials were lost. Around 70 000 documents were\r\ntaken by the Nazis to Riga, and part of them &#8211; to Tropau and Edolie.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>In December 1943 the Archives resumed its work in the town of Krichev, and in July 1944\r\nit was moved to Mogilev. In 1944 its holdings included 30 000 items created by the\r\nactivities of Soviet organizations in the Mogilev region before the Second World War; and\r\naround 15 000 items \u2013 records of the Nazi Occupation. Some documents were taken back\r\nfrom Riga and re-evacuated from Cheliabinsk and Tambov.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Since February 13, 2007 \u2014 the institution \u00abState Archives of the Mogilev Region\u00bb.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>On March 12, 2025, the opening of the new archive building took place at 23 Karl Marx Street.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Contacts Description of holdings Finding aids Historical background The State Archives of Mogilev Region was founded on July 5, 1938.
