Description of holdings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"submenu\">\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=106427\">Contacts<\/a><br>\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=777115\">Historical background<\/a><br>\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=448514\">Finding aids<\/a>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>Description of holdings<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Amount of holdings:<\/b> 1 209 fonds, 294 037 items<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Chronological s<\/b><strong>cope:<\/strong> 1917 &#8211; to the present day<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Geographical cover<\/b><strong>age: <\/strong>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n  <li>abolished Domanovichi, Kopatkevichi and Turov districts<\/li>\r\n  <li>Elsk, Zhitkovichi, Kalinkovichi, Lelchitsy, Mozyr, Narovlia and Petrikov districts of\r\n    the Gomel region <\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Contents:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The archives&#8217; records illustrate the work of the region and district executive\r\ncommittees, militia, courts, prosecutor&#8217;s offices and food committees in the early\r\npostrevolutionary period. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The fonds of poverty committees, agricultural and statistical institutions contain data\r\non the development of agriculture, the organization of collective and state farms,\r\nmachine-&#038;-tractor stations, land surveying and reclamation, the electrification and\r\nmechanization of agriculture, animal and livestock breeding, veterinary medicine, etc.\r\n\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Records of various land departments reflect the development of agriculture, the process\r\nof collectivization, the provision of the countryside with technical and agronomic\r\nequipment. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Records of public education illustrate the work of local institutions in the field of\r\nnational and cultural development, work with homeless children, the liquidation of\r\nilliteracy among the adult population. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Records of courts and prosecutor&#8217;s office reflect the struggle against deserters, kulaks (wealthier peasants), counterrevolutionary elements, &#8220;embezzlers of socialist property&#8221;, contain sentences in criminal cases and decisions in civil cases. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Records of notary&#8217;s offices contain inheritance certificates, agreements of donation, purchase and sale, division of property, inheritance rights etc. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Records of district and okrug executive committees illustrate the struggle against\r\nforeign military intervention and counterrevolution, economic devastation, unemployment,\r\nhunger, and the strengthening of Soviet power in 1920-1928. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Of peculiar interest are records of the revolutionary committees of the 1920s.
