{"id":549368,"date":"2018-09-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/archives.gov.by\/en\/?page_id=549368"},"modified":"2018-09-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T00:00:00","slug":"the-formation-of-belarusian-statehood-in-1918-1920s-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/archives.gov.by\/en\/welcome-to-the-archives-of-belarus-website\/subject-guides-to-archival-records\/historical-events\/archival-documents-and-materials-5\/the-formation-of-belarusian-statehood-in-1918-1920s-2","title":{"rendered":"The Formation of Belarusian Statehood in 1918-1920s"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About the project<\/h2>\r\n<p>The project \u00abThe Formation of Belarusian Statehood in 1918-1920s\u00bb is a \r\nspecial rubric on the Archives of Belarus website, an internet resource of the \r\narchives and RM authorities and the state archives network in the Republic of \r\nBelarus.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Purposes<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>The purpose of the project is to provide a more complete and objective \r\ninformation on the Internet on the issues of Belarusian history, primarily on \r\nthe basis of archival documents and materials describing the \r\nBelarusian national revival and nation-state \r\nbuilding in the late 1910s and the 1920s.\u00a0 <\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Structure<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>The page consists of three main sections: <br>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Background and overview<\/li>\r\n<li>Exhibition of archival documents and materials<\/li>\r\n<li>Archival publications<\/li><\/ul>\r\n<p>The exhibition features 450 documents and materials (their electronic \r\ncopies) available from the holdings of 12 archival \r\ninstitutions: the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art, the Belarusian \r\nState Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings, the National \r\nArchives of the Republic of Belarus, the state archives of Brest, Vitebsk, \r\nGomel, Grodno, Minsk and Mogilev regions, the state archives of public \r\norganizations of Grodno and Gomel regions, and the Belarusian Research Center \r\nfor Electronic Records. <\/p>\r\n<p>The exhibition is structured in two levels: <br>\r\n&#8211; List of records, including their title, date, type, language and location \r\nindex. On the right are links to view a full-size record. The records are \r\nbasically arranged in chronological order. <br>\r\n&#8211; Electronic copies of records. <\/p>\r\n<p>The exposition consists of seven thematic sections showing archival sources \r\nrelating to different state formations and administrative-territorial units in \r\n1918-1920s in the Belarusian ethnic lands: the Belarusian National Republic \r\n(BNR), the Socialist Soviet Republic of Lithuania and Belarus (LitBel), the \r\nBelarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), Western Belarus, Middle Lithuania, \r\nand some occupational structures. <\/p>\r\n<p>The project describes preconditions and processes of nation-state formation \r\non the ethnic territory of Belarus in 1918-1920s, gives information on the \r\nleaders of the Belarusian national revival and state building in that period, and \r\nshows how these processes have been reflected in literature, art \r\nand toponymy. <\/p>\r\n<p>On display are the official documents, reminiscences and notes made by the \r\nparticipants at those events. <br><br>\r\nThe rest of the exposition are 78 photographs, mainly showing the participants \r\nof the events, works of literature and art, toponymic objects, and 11 maps. <\/p>\r\n<p>With the view of illustrating certain key questions, we have used some material \r\npublished in the academic, encyclopedic, archival and other editions and mass \r\nmedia. Particularly, over 200 documents and materials (mainly from the National \r\nArchives of the Republic of Belarus) have been taken from the printed collection \r\nof documents &#8220;The State Borders of Belarus&#8221; (Vol. 1 (May 1917 &#8211; November 1926) \/ \r\ncomp. by V.E. Snapkovsky et al. &#8211; Minsk, 2012. 195 p.).<\/p>\r\n<p>In addition, to give a more comprehensive picture on the issue, we offer links to \r\nthe documentary sources already present on the Archives of Belarus \r\nwebsite on the specials pages relating to the First World War, Academician Karsky, and \r\nProfessor Dovnar-Zapolsky. <\/p>\r\n<p>The project also displays 18 printed editions and publications which \r\ncontain data on relevant documents held in the Belarusian archives and\/or prepared \r\nwith the participation of the Belarusian archival institutions. <\/p>\r\n<p>The offered material is not exhaustive and further research is possible on \r\nthe subject to enlarge the virtual exhibition<b>.<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p><b><a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=806147\">Participants<\/a><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>General coordination of the project \u2013 Department for Archives and Records \r\nManagement of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus. <\/p>\r\n<p>Main executor of the project, information contents, web design \u2013 Belarusian \r\nResearch Center for Electronic Records. <\/p>\r\n<p>Selection of records and digital copies \u2013\u00a0 Belarusian State \r\nArchives-Museum of Literature and Art, National Archives of the Republic of \r\nBelarus, Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings, \r\nthe state archives of Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno, Minsk and Mogilev regions, \r\nthe state archives of public organizations of Grodno and Gomel regions, and \r\nBelarusian Research Center for Electronic Records.<\/p>\r\n<p><b>Notes<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p>The use of the project materials requires a reference to the source of \r\ninformation \u2013 the Archives of Belarus Website and the individual archive which \r\nholds a record.
