Vikenty Konstantin Kalinovsky (1838-1864) \u2013 \r\n\trevolutionary democrat, member of the extreme left wing of insurgents, \r\n\tleader of the uprising in Belarus and Lithuania, publicist. Candidate of \r\n\tLaw. During his study at Petersburg University actively participated \r\n\tin a clandestine revolutionary organisation for people\u00a0from Poland, \r\n\tLithuania and Belarus. In 1861 founded a revolutionary organisation in \r\n\tGrodno, conducted anti-government propaganda. In 1862-1863 was active in \r\n\tpublishing and spreading the “Peasant’s Truth”, the first \r\n\tBelarusian-language newspaper, was a chief editor of the “Banner of Liberty”, \r\n\theaded the Lithuanian Provincial Committee. From the spring of 1863 the \r\n\trevolutionary commissioner for Grodno Province, then the head of the \r\n\tExecutive Department of Lithuania, plenipotentiary commissar of Lithuania \r\n\tand Belarus, leader of the uprising. He advocated the social and national \r\n\tliberation of the Belarusian people. In January 1864 was arested, publicly \r\n\texecuted by hanging in Vilna on 22 March 1864.

Frantishek Bogushevich (1840-1900) \u2013 member of the \r\n\tdemocratic wing of insurgents. Poet, prose writer, one of the founders \r\n\tof modern Belarusian literature. Fought in the Grodno province with the detachment \r\n\tled by L. Narbut, was wounded in action. After the suppression of the \r\n\trebellion \r\n\tleft for Ukraine and later returned homeland.\u00a0

Giuseppe Achille Bonoldi (1821-1871) \u2013 member of the \r\n\tdemocratic wing of insurgents. Public figure, singer, author, \r\n\tphotographer. An Italian, from 1842 lived in Vilna. Member of the Lithuanian \r\n\tProvincial Committee, in February 1863 was deported from Russia and at the same \r\n\ttime was appointed a foreign representative of the Provisional Provincial Government \r\n\tof Lithuania and Belarus. Participant of the Paris Commune. Died of \r\n\twounds.

After \r\n\tgraduating from Moscow University worked as a doctor in Novogrudok, in 1863 \r\n\tthe insurgent commissioner for Novogrudok district. Emigrated, participant in \r\n\tthe Paris Commune. In 1874 returned from emigration and was exiled.

Edmund Verigo (about 1840-1902) \u2013 one of the leaders of \r\n\t\tthe uprising, member of the democratic wing of insurgents. Studied \r\n\t\tat the mathematics faculty of Petersburg University, was active in the \r\n\t\tpreparation of the uprising, member of the Lithuanian Provincial \r\n\t\tCommittee. Arrested in February 1863, was condemned to penal servitude, \r\n\t\treturned in 1874.

Kalinovsky at the \r\n\tGrodno revolutionary organisation, with whom together published the \r\n\t“Peasant’s Truth”. In 1863 one of the leaders of the uprising in Grodno \r\n\tProvince, then in the provinces of Podliaska and Lublin. Was severely \r\n\twounded in action. Emigrated. Was condemned to 20 years of \r\n\thard labour.

Boleslav Dlusky (1826-1905) \u2013 member of the democratic \r\n\twing of insurgents. For participating in the patriotic movement in the \r\n\thigh school at Vilna, he was sent as a soldier to the Caucasus. On returning \r\n\the graduated from the medicine faculty of Moscow University. In 1862 \r\n\tmember of the Lithuanian Provincial Committee, an associate of K. \r\n\tKalinovsky. In 1863 the insurgent commissioner for Kovno voivodeship, in the \r\n\tsummer emigrated. From October 1863 the insurgent representative abroad.

Vikenty Dunin-Martsinkevich (1807-1884) \u2013 writer, one of \r\n\tthe founders of modern Belarusian literature. Before the uprising he \r\n\tparticipated in the patriotic and democratic movement. Supported the \r\n\tinsurgents. For over a year stayed in prison on suspicion of authoring the \r\n\tanti-government essays in the Belarusian language. Until his death stayed \r\n\tunder police surveillance. The writer’s daughter Kamilla was condemned to 10 \r\n\tyears of exile.

He was removed from the uprising leadership \r\n\tby members of the democratic wing. Emigrated.

In 1861-1862 one \r\n\tof the founders of the insurrectionary Lithuanian-Belarusian Committee of \r\n\tthe Movement. In 1863 commander of the insurgent detachment in Mogilev \r\n\tprovince, was captured and executed.

Emigrated, in 1872 voluntarily \r\n\treturned, was exiled.\u00a0

From June 1863 the insurgent chief in Vilna, a \r\n\tclose associate of K. Kalinovsky, in August 1863 left for Petersburg, then \r\n\temigrated. In England became famous for his invention in the field of \r\n\tphotography.\u00a0

Zygmunt (Sigizmund) Mineiko (1840-1925) \u2013 member of the \r\n\tdemocratic wing of insurgents. Military engineer-fortifier, \r\n\tarchaeologist, journalist. In 1863 the insurgent military chief in Oshmyany \r\n\tdistrict, a detachment commander, in June was taken prisoner, sentenced to \r\n\t12 years of hard labour. In Siberia one of the leaders of the Organisation \r\n\tof Exiles, escaped. In emigration graduated from the General Staff \r\n\tAcademy in Paris. Participant in the Greek-Turkish Wars. National Hero of \r\n\tGreece.

Eliza Ozheshko (1841-1910) \u2013 female writer, public \r\n\tfigure, whose life and work is connected with Belarus. She supported the \r\n\tinsurgents: supplied foods and medicine, was a messenger with the \r\n\tinsurgent detachment led by R. Traugut, and when it was crushed, hid its \r\n\tcommander. The uprising played a defining role in the formation of her \r\n\tdemocratic worldview.

Napoleon Orda (1807-1883) \u2013 painter, pianist, composer, \r\n\twhose life and work is connected with Belarus. During his study at Vilna \r\n\tUniversity served a prison term for involvement in a clandestine \r\n\tstudent society. An active participant in the revolt of 1830-1831, after its \r\n\tsuppression lived in France. In 1856 returned homeland and took part in the \r\n\tuprising of 1863-1864. Was condemned to exile, on request by the French side \r\n\tthe sentence was replaced by other limitations of rights.

Roman Roginsky (1840-1915) \u2013 one of the leaders of the \r\n\tuprising. Studied at the Polish military school in Italy. In 1862 the \r\n\tcommissioner of the Central National Committee in Warsaw for Podliaska \r\n\tvoivodeship. In 1863 the commander of insurgent detachments in the provinces \r\n\tof Minsk and Grodno, made a deep raid into Belarusian territory, was captured by \r\n\tpeasants and exiled. Was heavily \r\n\twounded, taken prisoner, publicly executed by hanging in Vilna.

Romuald Traugut (1826-1864) \u2013 one of the leaders of the \r\n\tuprising in Belarus and Poland. Before 1860 officer of the Russian army, \r\n\tlived on his estate in the Grodno province. In April – July 1863 \r\n\tcommander of insurgent detachments in the provinces of Minsk and Grodno, \r\n\tfrom October the head of the Provisional National Government in Poland. Was \r\n\texecuted in Warsaw.
